You’re Invited: Screening & Discussion – "God & Country" (2024) Faith, Freedom, and the Future of the Church Date: Sunday, November 2 Time: 2 p.m. Location: Plattsburgh UMC – In the Chapel About the Film "God & Country" (2024), produced by Rob Reiner and directed by Dan Partland, explores the growing influence of Christian Nationalism in America—examining how it distorts both our constitutional republic and the heart of Christian faith itself. Through powerful interviews with pastors, theologians, and public leaders, the film invites us to reflect on what happens when religion is used to seek power instead of serve others—and how followers of Jesus can reclaim a faith rooted in compassion, humility, and justice. Why This Matters As people of faith, we are called to love God and neighbor, to pursue truth, and to work for the common good. This documentary opens an essential conversation about how we can resist the misuse of religion for political gain and instead live out the radical love and inclusivity that Jesus taught. Join Us For + A community screening of "God & Country" + A guided discussion with Rev. Phil Richards following the film + Time for reflection and dialogue about the future of faith and democracy in America All are welcome. Come with an open heart and a desire to explore how faith can heal rather than divide. |

🌿 The Open Table Gatherings — A New Kind of Church Experience
Looking for a place to connect, eat, and grow together? Join us for The Open Table Gatherings — a monthly, intergenerational evening of food, creativity, and casual worship.
🍽️ Shared Meal 🎨 Hands-on Activities for All Ages 🎶 Music and Conversation 💜 Casual, Come-As-You-Are Worship
Each gathering blends the Messy Church and Dinner Church models, grounded in open and relational theology — celebrating community, creativity, and God’s love for all.
Sunday, November 2nd from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in the Chapel in the Fellowship Center.
Wednesday, November 5th from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in the Chapel in the Fellowship Center.
This fall, Peru Community Church will launch a new monthly program called The Open Table Gatherings, designed to bring people of all ages together around food, faith, and creativity.
Blending the Messy Church model (hands-on, intergenerational activities) with the Dinner Church model (shared meal and conversation), The Open Table Gatherings are built on progressive Christian values and open relational theology. Each evening features: A shared meal around the table. The meal will be provided! A short, down-to-earth message from clergy Creative stations for all ages (art, storytelling, prayer, service) Casual music and liturgy Space for honest questions and conversation
We wanted to create a spiritual space that feels like home. Many people are looking for community, but aren’t drawn to traditional church services. The Open Table Gatherings are about belonging, creativity, and shared life — not about sitting in pews or following a rigid format.
Everyone is welcome. There’s a seat for you at the table. |

Men's Breakfast Gathering - Monday, November 10th
All men are invited to Rulfs, the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast, conversation, and fellowship. This will be a casual gathering with Pastor Phil. A sign up sheet is in the back of the sanctuary -even if you do not sign up, you are still welcome! Each person will be responsible for their own bill. |
Looking Toward Advent and Decorating Our Sanctuary
It seems impossible that we are entering November with Advent and Christmas just around the corner! This year the Worship Team has planned a "Hanging of the Greens" gathering in the church after worship on Sunday, November 30th. All are welcome and invited to help decorate our sanctuary. We'll be placing nativity sets, wreaths, the Chrismon tree, etc., as we prepare for this holy season. A lite lunch of soup and bread for everyone who stays to help will be offered. We hope you'll consider staying and taking part in this new tradition. |
