SVENSON, DAVID E

Reverend David E. Svenson passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in his sleep after a long battle with old age. David was born August 19, 1940, in New York City, the youngest of four children born to the late Brigadiers Sven Eric Svenson and Alice Marie (Bodvar) Svenson. As he was growing up, the family served churches in Brooklyn, Jamestown, and Manhattan, NY, and Providence, RI. David was predeceased by his sister Joanne and his brother Carl. His is survived by his brother Robert and the widow of his brother Carl, Barbara Svenson.

David married Linda (Heyl) Svenson, the love of his life, on October 19, 1963, at Trinity Baptist Church in Brockton, MA, and they enjoyed 61 years together. Together, they had four children—he was an amazing father to all of them, and they are grateful to have had him as their father: Lisa Svenson and her spouse Mark Thompson of Amherst, NH; David Eric Svenson, who predeceased him; Kirsten Svenson and her spouse Jeffery Carter of Salem, NY; and Bethany Svenson of Nashua, NH. Pastor Dave served in ministry with care, compassion, kindness, warmth, love, and his signature sense of humor. He and the family were blessed to be welcomed into the following faith communities: Orrington Corner United Methodist Church, Orrington, ME (1967-1969); Mont Vernon Congregational Church, Mont Vernon, NH (1969-1974); Sunapee UMC, Sunapee, NH; Georges Mills UMC, Georges Mills, NH; and West Springfield UMC, Springfield, NH (1974-1979); Durrell Memorial UMC, Bethlehem, NH, and Trinity UMC, Whitefield, NH (1979-1985); Moultonboro UMC, Moultonboro, NH (1985-1992); Main Street UMC, Nashua, NH (1992-2000); Mid-Maine District Superintendent (2000-2008); Retired (2008); Interim Pastor at Moultonboro UMC; Interim Pastor at Main Street UMC; Interim Pastor at Peru UMC, Peru, NY; Interim Pastor at North Salem UMC, North Salem, NH; and Interim Pastor at Arlington Street UMC, Nashua, NH.

David served as a volunteer firefighter on the Mont Vernon, Sunapee, Bethlehem, and Moultonboro fire departments. He had a passion for reading, crosswords, and Caribbean cruises with his beloved Linda.

A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church, Nashua, NH. Memorial donations may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church or to the Salvation Army. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.farwellfuneralservice.com

Frank Gulinello, said: I was Dave's Superintendent and counted him one of the most effective pastors in the NH and New England Annual Conferences. I enjoyed his friendship and sense of humor and deep faith in his calling which undergirded his pastoral style and sound leadership. My condolences and blessing to Linda, and their daughters as they grieve. May God bless you and keep you and grant you Peace.

From your former neighbors on Stark and Wellington Streets in Nashua (the Lightfoots), we send our deepest sympathies and warm wishes. 17 years have gone by, but nary a day do we not salute Dave, Linda, family and our shared joy in Marmalade (the cat). Could not have been a more fluid, generous and loving pairing! Dave…you are missed…for so, so many reasons. Our tipsy-turbulence world needs your guiding hand and loving heart! RIP.

Linda, Lisa, Kirsten, and Bethany, Dave was such a spiritual force in our lives at an impressionable time for us at MUMC. You are all part of our journey and we are grateful for Dave’s leadership and friendship and humor. We wish for God’s arms around you as you remember and grieve. With fondness and sympathy, Sandra and Todd Ringelstein

Dave was my good friend. He brought me back to my faith and I am forever grateful. I used to meet with him and Redding Thomson at Barnes & Noble where Redding told us wonderful stories in his still Southern drawl, and we would laugh and have a great few hours. We lost touch but I thought of Dave alot. He will fit right in, in heaven.

My sincere condolences to the Svenson family. I am sorry I didn’t get to meet Pastor Dave. but, after reading his story, our paths have intertwined. I am of Swedish descent and a Retired Presbyterian Pastor, living in Moultonborough, whose family goes to the First Church, UCC, in Nashua and who had family in Brooklyn, Providence, and MA. I even wonder, if we had family ties. May God Bless his ministry and legacy.

Linda and Lisa, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I enjoyed working with David when he was the district superintendent in Maine. Since I am of Swedish heritage I will always think of him as DSx3…Dave Svenson, district superintendent, demented Swede. I am currently living at Langdon Place in Nashua, but unfortunately due to physical handicaps I will be unable to attend his funeral.

I was missing him already, grieving that I have not seen him in too long! Yet I will ALWAYS treasure the wonderful memories of our time(s) together. And I look forward to seeing him again someday, perhaps not too far in the future(!), as we are promised. He gave us all so much of himself, so unselfishly. He showed us how we should live - in service - to God and to one another. I loved reading more about him and all he did and gave to the world; he touched a really large and wide community and spread The Message. Thank you, Pastor David Svenson.

It saddens my heart that such a good man has left us. For my short time interacting with him I learned a lot. This man was full of positive values and very inviting. He taught me ways to condole with a bereaved family among other things. I pray for peace and love to his surviving love ones

Linda, there are no words to express our saddened hearts to hear of David's passing. David meant so much to the Nickerson family as he did to so many families throughout his ministry. We love you and will see you on the 28th. As my daughter Ashley said, "When Dave arrived in God's heavenly kingdom, Jesus was there to say to David, 'By the way, I have an opportunity for yoy' ! " With love to you all, Murray Nickerson
